Our Response to COVID-19

Dear Members & Guests of First Baptist Church Mahan (112),

It is certainly my hope and prayer that each of you are embracing safety in this season and that you’re celebrating the testimony of still being kept by the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  Again, given the intensified awareness and clear concerns regarding the contagious spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we again wish to assure you that public health and safety concerns yet remain our highest priority here at First Baptist Church Mahan.  We understand that these are unprecedented times and I would like to personally take this opportunity to thank you for your continued trust in pastoral leadership as we continue to be led by faith and facts in this season.

As the health of our nation continues to evolve with updates regarding COVID-19, we wanted to again share a few measures regarding future worship services here at 112.  While we understand the country’s desire to return to the normal that was “business as usual” pre-pandemic, we still believe that executing caution and patience is still the safest and most comprehensive approaches during this season.  Although some churches are reopening for services over the next several weeks, we will continue with the suspension of ALL corporate worship services and related activities here at the church until further notice.

Even though there is “presidential pressure” coercing the country to rush back to a sense of normalcy, the facts remain that COVID-19 is still prevalent, the infection rates are still rising, and persons are still passing away due to complications of the virus.  In addition to the pandemic being politicized we must also remember that our demographic has statistically now become the “color” of COVID-19 and therefore we must take additional precautions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our congregants.  We understand both the confusion and the disorder that has engulfed our country due largely in part to the mixed-messaging provided by many within our national leadership who are still downplaying the seriousness of the virus by advocating to reopen the economy without states having to adhere to universal safety protocols or guidelines.

As you know, the White House has politicized and suppressed the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) report on how the country is to be reopened safely while also filtering any findings from the scientific community that isn’t consistent with prioritizing the nation’s economy over the nation’s health.  Projections are now stating that our nation’s infected population will more than likely double through the summer months as social distancing practices continue to wane.

Again, in addition to ushering people into a more meaningful relationship with God, the health and safety of our membership is our highest priority here at First Baptist Church Mahan.  As much as we are yearning to get back into the church, we ALL need to understand that we’re not in control of this virus and that we need to continue exercising patience in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our people.  Though we are not in control, we are fully aware of the One who is in control, and we believe that God is calling us to remain steadfast as we continue to trust in Him throughout this season.

Additionally, it is immensely imperative that we remain INFORMED and INSPIRED during this season. There is a tremendous volume of misinformation swirling about regarding COVID-19 and it is extremely important that we’re absorbing accurate data so that we can govern ourselves accordingly. For accurate information regarding COVID-19, please research the reputable work of the following organizations:

Please note that these are unprecedented times as none of these decisions have been made lightly.  I encourage you to please continue to keep our entire church family in prayer during this season.  It is critical that we remain connected and committed to keeping each other lifted in prayer.  As always, I am honored to serve as your pastor and I am appreciative of your confidence in me as I strive to make your safety my top priority while continuing to seek God’s face in this season.  To recap:

  • ALL worship services and ALL related activities at First Baptist Church Mahan will remain in our current state of suspension until further notice.  We will reevaluate where we are after Sunday, September 6, 2020 and make another discerning determination regarding corporate worship services at that time.
  • Though we are not able to “come to church” to worship, we have been BLESSED to be able to still have online worship each week!  We would certainly like to take this opportunity to thank all of our members and friends of 112 for joining us each Sunday AM during our Livestream worship experiences!  Please know that you can continue to worship with us via livestream on Facebook Live and through our church website and app each Sunday morning at 10AM.  We are excited to announce that our services can now also be viewed on YouTube as we now have our own YouTube page!  We pray that you will continue to join us each week and that you will also continue to invite family and friends to share in the experience.  An Invitation to Christ will be offered after the sermon via Digital Discipleship followed by an opportunity for members and guests to worship through giving.
  • During the offering, electronic giving is encouraged and appreciated through our online giving via the church website or the church app.  As some of you are already in the practice of doing, please note that you can also contact your bank to set up your giving electronically to the church directly from your banking account.  Please note that electronic giving is now the easiest and safest way to send your gifts to the Lord’s church.  Additionally Tithes & Offerings can be mailed to the church to:

  • Each week our ministerial team is faithfully calling the members of our church family to encourage them and ensure that they remain connected in Christ in this season.  Please make sure that we have your most recent contact information at the church so that you won’t miss out on these weekly opportunities of connection.

  • We all pray and believe that our God will continue to sustain us during this season as He has done in all previous seasons.  We continue to stand firmly on the divine assurances of Isaiah 41:10: “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you!  Don’t be frightened, for I am your God!  I strengthen you – yes, I help you – yes, I uphold you with my saving right hand!”   Remain Prayerful, Be Practical, and most of all…Be Encouraged!

Because of His Grace,

Rev. Dr. Steven G. Blunt
Senior Pastor
