Join Us for the  Vaccination Forum

First Baptist Church Mahan is pleased to host an informative forum re: COVID-19 and the importance of the vaccines on February 27, 2021 at 11 a.m. ET.  During the forum, we will discuss issues related to the pandemic including:
  • What is the COVID-19 Virus?
  • Understanding the vaccines & the vaccination process.
  • Dispelling the rumors & the misinformation re: the vaccines.
  • Acknowledging the historical & current realities re: “vaccination anxiety.”

Meet The Panel

Dr. Kasey Davis

Chief Scientific Officer, BioTech Industry
Kasey Davis, Ph.D., is the Chief Scientific Officer at a San Francisco based biotech company aiming to expand the clinical utility of genomics for diverse populations through diagnostics. She is an expertly trained neuroanatomist dedicated to understanding abnormal brain function and development in patients with neuropsychiatric disorders, specifically, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder (MDD).  
Her training in mental health research includes Howard University, the Clinical Brain Disorders Branch of the National Institute of Mental Health and advanced research training in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University.

Mrs. Patricia Lynn Richards-Spruill

Retired Pharmacist, 40 Years
Patricia Lynn Richards-Spruill, RPh, B.S in pharmacy, is the immediate past Director of Experiential Education for Hampton University School of Pharmacy. Mrs. Richards-Spruill is currently serving as a member of the Virginia Board of Pharmacy, upon which she was appointed by Governor Ralph Northam in 2018 for a four-year term.  She also serves as the chairman of the Special Conference-A of the board as well as serving on the Regulation Committee.
Mrs. Richards-Spruill also serves as the Chair of Arts and Letters for Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., Facet Chair for National Trends and Services for Suffolk (VA) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, Deaconess and Trustee at First Baptist Church Mahan, as well as serving the community on other various committees. She also continues to participate on a volunteer basis with HUSOP as a guest lecturer and member of the Interprofessional Committee.

Dr. Linwood Spruiell, MD

Medical Doctor
Native of Norfolk, VA and graduate of Norfolk State University and Meharry Medical College. Diplomate, The American Board of Anesthesiology.  Practicing  anesthesiologist in Suffolk, Va. for 30 years.

Dr. Elijah J. Burke

Director of Health, Social Justice, & Men’s Ministry at the Baptist General Convention of Virginia (BGCVA)
Rev. Dr. Burke is Director of Health, Social Justice and Men’s Ministry at the Baptist General Convention of Virginia (BGCVA). Dr. Burke provides statewide leadership and guidance to BGC churches re: the ministry variables of health initiatives, cultivating the spiritual aptitude of Christian men, and partnering with advocacy opportunities via social justice organizations across the state and our nation.  
Dr. holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences from Elizabeth City State University and Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union University.  Dr Burke is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated and is the author of the newly released book titled - Faith Beyond the Pews: An Experience in Social Action Ministry.  He has been married to Gloria Doss Burke for 43 years and they have a daughter - Shayla Rashida Burke also of Richmond, VA.
